The Peanut Man
by Harry Albus

Biography as Albus writes it is more interesting than fiction. The story of the Black scientist, George Washington Carver, and one of the outstanding botanists of his time! Born a slave and stolen by slave stealers, this is the story of his life in fictional form.

Here is a fascinating biography picturing the life of the famous black American scientist, George Washington Carver, who "talked to God" about his work. Kids readily grasp the author's vivid, pictorial account of this great man's boyhood, education, accomplishment and the permeating influence of his Christianity.

Born of slave parents in Missouri in 1864 just when the slaves obtained their freedom, Carver was kidnapped with his mother while still an infant. Ransomed (without his mother) and brought up by his master and mistress, he attained outstanding prominence as a botanist, especially for his research in the use of the peanut plant, developing 300 products from the peanut and 118 from the sweet potato. Carver lived until 1943, attaining the ripe age of 79 years.

His colorful and Christian life compels admiration and has inspired and given direction to many young lives.

In this book, the author faithfully relates the true facts of Carver's useful life in such a way that the story is thoroughly enjoyable and real to readers, young and old, and serves to introduce them to the worthwhile field of biographical books.
