In this book, the author tells the story of everyday life in New York during the 1920's. We follow the lives of a newspaper boy with desperate dreams, an office clerk who loses himself writing novels, a beautiful model and an ancient museum curator who dreams of finding an African diamond. These lives seem to be unconnected, but they will coincide dramatically at the end of the book.
